AI and The Next Generation.

ree

We are raising the next generation on artificial intelligence. Period. We are yet to grasp the how much the world has changed between generations, what that does to the future and careers. Has it even occurred to you that the world went through a lot of changes we are yet to recover from since COVID? World economies, individual economies, organizational cultures, interpersonal relationships, mental health, the list goes on. I'll cut straight to the chase. While I type this, I am sitting at work, next to a student I am supposed to assist or tutor. In completing his Chemistry Test I noticed he is using his phone and I wad just about to prompt him when I realized he was using AI. I would not lie, I was very tempted to ask him what app he was using and he showed me. He went through 25 questions in under 30minutes and scored an 84% (I thought he should have scored a 100%). I asked him if he was retaining the information, he said not really and that what was more important to him was getting the test done. To be honest, being a student myself and working with students, sometimes all that matters is the grades. I would understand why the retention of the information and getting it done the right way is important, hence the reason I don't use AI. But for a 16 year old today, who would most likely rule the world tomorrow, he doesn't get it. By the way, I already have a sense of how my "job is out of the window". That is not the part that bothered me, me because I have other things to do. It is absolutely wild to see what AI is yet to do. Some countries are yet to figure out the now common "World Wide Web". Other countries are struggling with basic education. The world is slowly going through a shift and industries have to fall in line. Without naming any names, some countries are way behind and at the same time, have their priorities in the wrong place. AI and whether it would be regulated or not is only scary because we are not catching up with it as fast as we need to. The sooner we get seven times ahead of systems by rigorously educating ourselves in general, the better for us!
